Farabee, John G. Beloved brother, uncle, and unfailing friend, passed away on 10/14/10 at his home in Minneapolis, where since the late 1980s he lived and worked. John was born in Chicago on August 18, 1948, the youngest child of Nellie and Lawrence Farabee. After graduating from W.E.B. Du Bois High School, John served in the military in North Carolina, and returned to Chicago to work in sales and attend DePaul University, where he wrote short stories that brought readers to tears. John received a Bachelor's degree from Metropolitan State University while working as a proud UAW member at Ford Motor Company's St. Paul plant. He received a 1996-1997 Nellie Stone Johnson Scholarship, bringing educators, fellow union activists, students and guests to their feet with his call for justice and equality. John's compassion, wit, and wisdom were unsurpassed. He inspired and is deeply loved and missed. Survived by brothers, Harold Ousley, and Lawrence and Steven Farabee, as well as his beloved nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews. Private interment Fort Snelling Cemetery.
