Helling, Alfred Magnus Fondly known as "Roundy", 90, of Hopkins, MN, died of natural causes on Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park. He was born on October 1, 1919, in Jasper, MN, to Andrew and Mary (Remme) Helling. He served in World War II in the US Army from 1942-45. Alfred graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1948 and worked as an auditor for Archer Daniels in Minneapolis and the State of Minnesota until retirement in 1982. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jasper and attended regularly at Central Lutheran Church in downtown Minneapolis. Alfred was a member of the Sons of Norway, VFW, and the American Legion. He had a passion for fishing and his Norwegian heritage. His most treasured trips included Norway and Alaska. Alfred took special pleasure in being around family and his Norwegian friends. He was especially proud to be a Minnesotan and big fan of the Vikings and Twins. He is survived by his niece, Arlis Odland of Mitchell, SD; great niece, Vicki Schoenbeck of Farmington, MN; great nephew, Larry Odland and wife Pam of Sioux Falls, SD; six great, great nephews and nieces; ten great, great, great nephews and nieces, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; two brothers, Emmett and Edward; two sisters, Mabel DeBates and Anna Hermanson; and two brothers-in-law. Funeral services will be at Jasper Evangelical Lutheran Church on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 11 AM. Burial will be at Jasper Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the church service.
