Carpenter, Chellis "Mike" 85, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, stepfather and brother-in-law, passed away at his home in Marietta, Georgia on Monday, September 7, 2010 after an extended illness. He was born in Highland Park, Michigan on April 24, 1925 and enjoyed 85 years of life surrounded by family and friends. Mr. Carpenter was a proud veteran of the WWII era. He loved aviation and after the war, he enjoyed a 47 year career with Northwest Airlines. He volunteered at the Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan, worked at the Minnesota Historical Society, and also volunteered at the Marietta Museum of History and the Marietta Welcome Center in Marietta, Georgia. He was predeceased by his parents Chellis M. Carpenter and Susan Young and his sister Lynn Cesari. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Mary Alice Carpenter, daughter, Laurie MacCracken (Jack) of Oneonta, NY; daughter, Cheryl Stearn (fiancé Douglas Musil) of Tallahassee, FL; son William Carpenter of Tallahassee, FL; daughter Nancy Farkas (Brian) of Traverse City, Michigan and daughter Vicki Sawicki (Eric) of Big Rapids, Michigan; 12 grandchildren, Sandra and Jason Zollars of Oneonta, NY; Timothy White of Tallahassee, FL; Rachel and Caleb Carpenter of Grand Blanc, Michigan; Alison Carpenter of Chicago, Illinois; Matthew, Jeremy, Emily and Michael Farkas of Traverse City, Michigan and Gayle and Victor Sawicki of Big Rapids, Michigan; two great-grandchildren, Maddie Jo and Annabelle Zollars of Oneonta, NY; Also brother-in-law, Gus Cesari of Grosse Isle, Michigan, three stepsons and their families, Press Fletcher (Donna) children John and Lauren, Jeff Fletcher (Alison) and their son Patrick and Jay Fletcher (Anne) and their son Gregory. A Memorial Service was held Saturday, September 11, 2010 at St. James' Episcopal Church in Marietta, GA . Arrangements by SouthCare Cremation Society and Memorial Centers in Marietta, GA.
