Mann, Delores "Dee" Minnesota tourism pioneer Delores (Dee) Mann born Nov. 17, 1917 to Ruth and Clifford Dutton passed away Sept. 7th at age 92. Dee Mann was an outdoor writer and publisher of Minnesota Outdoors Guide Books and syndicated columns with her husband Stu Mann who predeceased her in 1981. Dee is remembered as an ethical, spiritual woman who was a gifted writer and musician, and an advocate protecting sport fishing in the state. She was initiated into the International Fishing Hall of Fame and honored with the Dolphin Award in 1968. Governor Harold LeVander awarded her a Certificate of Merit, "In recognition of your unselfish devotion and contribution to travel in the interest of outdoor sports, with particular emphasis on fishing; and for your faithful and untiring work as Publisher of the Minnesota Outdoors Yearbook." She was a member of the Minnesota Press Club. Although Dee had a hearing loss most of her life, music was an integral part of her life. She played piano, composed popular and classical music, and she loved to sing. She sang in the Wesley Methodist Church choir in Minneapolis before her marriage to aeronautical engineer, Richard Stuhley, worked as a welder during World War II, and was a stay at home mom to Marcia and Bruce, writing short stories, poetry and music. At age 62 Dee was diagnosed with macular degeneration which limited her career. In spite of her challenges, she remained positive toward life and was an inspiration to all who knew her. Surviving are her daughter, Marcia Mann Robbins and her husband Stephen Bergh, son, Marshall Bruce Mann and his wife Doreen, grandchildren, Evan (Van) Robbins, III and his wife Susan Kempler, Dike (Jack) Robbins, Dee Malia Robbins, Corey Mann and Vanessa, Nicole Mann Farrar, five great grandchildren, Elliott and Malcolm Mann, Brooke, Halie and Lora Ann Farrar, niece Ruth Marie Dutton, cousins Peggy Cerise, Vickie Fisher, David Duenow, and Isabel Westman. Her family expresses its deep appreciation for the loving care extended to Dee for the past 13 years by the Golden Living Center St. Louis Park and the friendship of Peggy and Frank Johnson. Frank had been visiting Dee for years on a regular basis helping with her care. Dee will be buried next to her husband, Stewart (Stu) Mann, mother Ruth Mae Briggs Dutton, grandmother Ella Mae Gates Briggs, uncles Edward Guy and Franklin Jay Briggs, and near her grandfather Granville Briggs, great grandmother Polly Leavitt Walker Gates Mason and great great grandparents Stillman and Lydia Leavitt at Pine Glen Cemetery, Prescott, WI.
