Vozoff, Maureen of Los Angeles, CA, died September 1, 2010 in her home, surrounded by family and friends, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Maureen (Massie) was born on Valentine's Day, 1937, in Minneapolis. She was the youngest child and only daughter of the late Max and Ida (Abrams) Vozoff. After attending the University of Minnesota and holding a series of administrative jobs in the Minneapolis area, Maureen moved to Los Angeles and built a successful 40-year career as a valued bookkeeper for a select number of prestigious accounting firms, including Nanas, Stern, Biers, Neinstein & Co in Beverly Hills. After retiring in 2005, Maureen devoted herself to family and a lifelong love of animal rescue & advocacy. Never living with fewer than two dogs of her own - always rescue animals in desperate need of a home - she had an uncanny ability to transform even the saddest dog into a happy, frisky pet. She supported many rescue groups and was a longtime member of Shambala (Sanskrit for "place of peace and harmony"), a safe mountain haven for big animals victimized by the exotic pet trade or entertainment industry. Maureen loved her home in Studio City, where she tended fruit trees that grew just beyond the tiled veranda that she made so pleasant for sipping coffee or wine, for reading alone or chatting with friends. She loved art and architecture, film and books, travel and current events. She is survived by her brothers and their wives: Keeva & Liz Vozoff of Sydney, Australia and Jerome and Lorinne Vozoff of Los Angeles; six nephews and nieces (Jennifer, Nancy, Stephen, Andrew (Max), Kathleen and Deon), eight grand-nephews and -nieces; and friends with whom she enjoyed nothing better than intelligent conversation about subjects of mutual interest. A memorial service was held for family and friends in Los Angeles on September 4th. Final services and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Sunday (TODAY), at Gemelus Chesed Cemetery.
