Erickson, Marjorie Lou age 82, of Owatonna, died Friday, March 4, 2016 at Homestead Hospice House. Born in Des Moines, IA, Marj grew up in Winterset, IA amidst the bridges of Madison County and then attended Hamline University, BS in Nursing. She married Wally on May 31, 1958 and moved to Birmingham, AL. Marj raised her family in Bloomington, MN where she was an active member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church. Her career as a nurse transitioned into becoming a nursing instructor. She earned an MA in Educational Administration from St. Thomas. She retired from the Minneapolis VA Hospital in 1999 and moved with Wally to Owatonna where she was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She traveled widely from Iceland to the Amazon, Scotland to Macchu Pichu, Norway to Greece, with many trips to France. Marj was active in AFS as host to exchange students and teachers and served as President of the Hamline University Parent's Council. She loved words - voracious reader (mysteries), Jeopardy, word jumbles, etc. Marj particularly enjoyed cooking, fine dining and college basketball (Tarheels). Marj focused her life on caring for and teaching others. An earthly angel heaven bound - she will be sorely missed and forever loved. She is survived by spouse, Wally; identical twin sister, Meredith Whicker; children, Nels (Ann Lenczewski) Erickson, Sonja (Dave Castle) Erickson, Lars (Julie) Erickson; beloved grandchildren, Tess (Mike) Meyer, Luke, Tally, Montara, Malia, Cole, and Brinik; plus many other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by parents, Winter and Darrell Mackay and brother-in-law Bobbie Whicker. Memorial services will be held Friday, March 11, 2016 at 11am at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Owatonna, with The Reverend Karl Korbel officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Our Savior's Lutheran Church or to the donor's choice.
