Turek, Alvin "Al" Martin Died of pneumonia with family surrounding him at Auburn Manor, Chaska on January 29, 2010 at age 90. Our Yankee Doodle Dandy was born on the 4th of July, 1919 in Montgomery, MN. Survived by loving wife of 63 years, Beatrice Turek; children, Bob (Kathy) Turek, Candy (Dave) Kragthorpe, all of Shakopee; grandchildren, Jeffrey Turek, Jennifer (Jason) Budzinski, Holly (Patrick) Kragthorpe-Shirley, Daniel (fiancée Carly Elmgren) Kragthorpe; great- grandchildren, Ava and Cole Shirley; brother, Ret. Col. Richard "Dick" Turek; sisters, Harriet Bartyzal and Eva Tracy. Preceded in death by parents, Frank and Anna Turek, 5 brothers and 6 sisters. This most kind, gentle, generous man lived a remarkable and full life. Growing up with a family of 15 siblings, he rode the rails during the Great Depression, and served his country in WWII as Army Staff Sergeant, Italian Campaign. Steadfast partner of wife, Bea. Loving father, grandfather, and great- grandfather. He devoted his retirement years to volunteer service to the local food shelf. He worked for Minnegasco for 23 years. He will be missed for his silly jokes and enjoyment of music, including the ever present whistling as he went about his day. Retired Montgomery Fireman and 60+ years American Legion Post. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Auburn Manor for their care of Al in his 4 years with them. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred, to be distributed in Alvin's name.
