Simon, Werner, MD Age 95, of Bloomington, MN, died at home on June 28. Preceded in death by first wife, Betty; and sister, Karola Parapugna of Jackson Hts, NY. Survived by wife, Madeline; nephew, Louis Martin of Hollis Hills, NY; grandniece, Elissa Martin Shemesh of Bayside, NY; stepchildren, Andrea Miller, Maureen Hunt, and Nicole Bottsford-Miller; and grandchildren, Leina and Madeline Hunt. Chief of Psychiatry, Mpls. VA Hospital, 1948-71; professor of psychiatry and medicine, Univ. of Minn. Medical School; Life Fellow of Amer. Psychiatric Assoc; Amer. College of Physicians; Past Pres. Minn. Psychiatric Society; Minn. Society of Neurological Sciences Club; Co-author: Differential Treatment and Prognosis in Schizophrenia, 1959. Published articles on schizophrenia, suicide, drug addiction, music therapy. Fully retired, age 90, from long-standing weekly "Special Topics in Psychiatry" seminar at Hennepin County Medical Center. Born in Bremen, Germany, 1914; graduated medical school in Bern, Switzerland, 1937; forced to return to Nazi Germany for visa to emigrate to the US, 1937; served to captain in US Army Medical Corps WWII in California and Washington State. Life-long violinist, pianist and chamber music player. A private celebration of his life -- featuring music and spoken tributes -- will be held at a future time. Suggested memorials to Animal Humane Society.
