Lindgren, Obed Franklin Age 98, of Edina, formerly of Richfield. Born Lanyon, IA November 4, 1910. Died peacefully February 20 at his home. May his memory be blessed. Preceded in death by parents Frank and Amy (Johnson) Lindgren, first wife Clara Verona (Peterson); sisters Regina (Richard) Dickerson, Evelyn (Vern) Winblad and Ruth (Dr. James) Coss; brothers Emory (Ruth) and Gilmore (Hazel). Survived by his beloved wife Wilma; sons Bruce (Pat) of Herbster, WI, David (Joyce) of Stillwater, and Steven (Kathy) of Richfield; step-children Dawn (Lee) Anderson of Eden Prairie and Craig (Cindy) Willey of Big Lake; sister Irene Lessing Dahlen (Lester) of Bloomington; brother Dr. Roy Lindgren of Olympia, WA; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Known by family and friends as "Obie," Lindgren was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather who found his greatest pleasures in easy conversation. A graduate of the University of Nebraska (1933), Lindgren worked as a railway postal clerk and supervisor for the US Postal Service until his retirement in 1967. Greatly influenced by his early life in Lanyon, he valued public education as a contribution to individual growth and community development. A member of the Covenant Church from childhood, Lindgren celebrated a deep Christian faith. As a Boy Scout father, he supported the camping program of Richfield Troop 262. Lindgren was an entrepreneur who formed a seasonal business to provide rototilling and lawn care in the metropolitan suburbs. He was an inventor of an herbicide sprayer as well as numerous gadgets to make life a little easier for himself, his wife and his friends. Funeral service 11:00 am on Friday, February 27 at Bloomington Covenant Church, 10150 Xerxes Ave. S., with visitation one hour prior. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery.
