Davids, Robert Jr. 82, of Gonvick, MN, died on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the Clearwater Memorial Hospital in Bagley, MN. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Samhold Lutheran Church in Gonvick, MN. Visitation will be on Friday, January 2, 2009 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bagley, MN. Interment will be at the Samhold Lutheran Cemetery in Gonvick, MN. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted with the arrangements. Robert was born on March 1, 1927 at the Summit Farm in Bagley, MN the son of Robert and Anna (Hoper) Davids. He moved to Williams, MN as a young child and attended school there. When he was a freshman, he was on the High School Hockey Team that won the Regional Championship. He graduated from the school of Agriculture in Crookston, MN. He entered the United States Navy and was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he moved to Minneapolis, MN, where he attended the University of Minnesota studying Veterinary Science. Robert met Audrey Lind in the choir at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN. They were later married on April 22, 1950 at Minneapolis, MN. They lived in Crystal, MN where he worked at the Co-Op. He fulfilled his lifelong dream when he and Audrey bought land north of Gonvick in 1952, where they ranched. He worked at the United States Postal Service as a Rural Letter Carrier for the Gonvick, Trail and Gully area. He finished his 36 year career for the Postal Service as Post Master for the Gully/Trail Post Office. His heart was sold out to Jesus with his service to the Gideons and his lay Ministry. Robert served on the Gonvick School Board for several years, he was a Boy Scout Leader in Gonvick and was very active at the Samhold Lutheran Church where he was a Sunday School Teacher and was on the Church Council. Robert had a lifelong passion for horses, but above all he was an extraordinary husband and father and loved his family very much. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Davids of Gonvick, MN; daughter, Laura Davids of Apple Valley, MN; daughter, Amy Davids of Minnetonka, MN; son, Daniel (Susan) Davids of Evansville, MN; daughter, Elizabeth (Steven) Lee of Lonsdale, MN; son, James Davids of Apple Valley, MN; sister, Helen (Don) West of Ashland, WI; brother, Charles Davids of South Dakota; sister, Rita (Rey) Erickson of Eagan, MN; 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
