Berglund, Elmer Eugene 84, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2008. He was born on January 31, 1924 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota to Signe and Carl Berglund. Mr. Berglund served in World War II as a Sergeant in Army Intelligence. He spent more than 30 years in Bemidji, Minnesota. He graduated from Bemidji High School and attended the University of Minnesota. He worked as a brakeman and conductor for the Northern Pacific Railway. He served several terms in the Minnesota House of Representatives in the 1950's. In 1960 he was elected Director of the United Transportation Union. His work and life was devoted to creating a better life for the men and women he served. He loved gardening and reading. Mr. Berglund is survived by his wife, Margaret, with a wonderful 56 year marriage; by his son, Brad; and by his sisters, Delores and Gladys. He is preceded in death by his father, Carl; his mother, Signe; by his brothers, Clarence, Vic, Edward & Lester; and by his sisters, Mildred & Dorothy. Mr. Berglund said he had a good life and had no regrets and wished the best in life to all. Services were held on Saturday, August 16, 2008, at 11:00 AM at the Desert Springs Lutheran Church with Rev. Mike Holsten officiating. Interment followed at Vista Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the University of New Mexico Cancer Center, 1 University of New Mexico, 900 Camino de Salud, NE, Albuquerque, NM 87131-0001.
