Topousis, Daniel 93, died on November 25th surrounded by family. Born in New York City to Greek immigrants, Dan was a free-thinking intellectual who loved reading, writing, and music, and wrote poems, plays, and family stories. A clarinetist in his youth, Dan loved jazz and classical music. He spent many happy days walking in the woods and riding his bike, and enjoyed playing tennis with his children. There wasn't a bird or tree in which he did not express wonder, and he would return from his walks ready to share what he saw with great enthusiasm. Dan and his wife Cleo explored the world together, especially New Orleans, where they'd honeymooned, and Europe, particularly Greece. They spent nearly 20 years in retirement in Florida, where Dan loved to swim in the Gulf of Mexico. He appreciated good food and good wine, and regularly played the family bartender, in particular making manhattans and martinis. Dan is survived by Cleo, his wife of 63 years; his children Erica (Mike), Damian (Rose), Clea (John), Dana, and Daria; and his seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Adrienne, Alex, Kasey (Steve), Taylor, Jeff, and Abby. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Three Rivers Park District which Dan loved exploring, or to Presbyterian Homes & Services where he spent his final days. "Time, which alters people, does not alter the image we have retained of them." Marcel Proust
