Rosemary (Kinney) Hartup

Hartup, Rosemary Kinney 88, passed away at her home in Roseville on October 4th. Born in East Sparta, Ohio to Hobart and Hope Kinney, Rosemary graduated from Baldwin Wallace College and earned a Master's Degree in Theater Arts from The Ohio State University. Her theatrical career began at the Iowa Repertory Company and continued at the Eastside Theater when she moved to Minnesota. Over the years, she acted and directed at Theater in the Round, the Cricket Theater, Chimera Theater, Chanhassen Dinner Theater and the Guthrie Theater, among others. She was a founding member of the Guthrie Theater's experimental company, Guthrie 2. The artisticb director of Guthrie 2, Eugene Lion wrote that "her technical skills are constantly at the service of an almost luminescent intuition, an immaculate taste, an exquisite intelligence." Among her many memorable roles were Eleanor in The Lion in Winter, Joanne in Company, Judith in Hay Fever, Linda in Death of a Salesman, and Hester in Athol Fugard's Hello and Goodbye. Rosemary was predeceased by her parents and brother, Richard Kinney. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Willard, and her children Hope, Grant, and Barry. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Dylan, Rosemary, and Annika Eberle, Lindsay and Jake Hartup, and Madison and Catherine Hartup. A memorial service will be held at a future date.
