Svendsen, Walter W. Age 90 of New Brighton passed away October 3, 2015. Born and raised in St. Paul. He served as a US Air Force pilot in WWII. He worked as an engineer and retired as Technical Director from Boart Longyear, where his job took him around the world. He was a Boy Scout Leader and volunteer, and he loved to golf, hunt and fish. Wally's sense of humor, strong faith and love for family and friends was evident to all who knew him. Preceded in death by wife, Shirley; granddaughter, Nikki; siblings, Chester, Jennie, Laura, Louise, Elmer, Alice and Julia. Survived by children, Jim (Kathy), Sue (Rob) Prusak, Jeanne (Doug) McIlavy and Julie (Rick) Gebhardt; grandchildren, Carolyn (Andy), Michael (Cassie), Andrew (Leah), Joanna, Kelly, Ryan, Kari (Per), and Brendon; five great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marlyce Bailey; special friend Joan Marchek; many nieces, nephews and close friends. Visitation from 9:30 - 10:55 AM with Memorial Service immediately following on Thursday, Oct. 8 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1900 7th Street NW, New Brighton, MN 55112. Memorials to Christ the King Lutheran Church or Guardian Angels Care Center, Elk River, MN. Special thanks to the staff at Guardian Angels and Allina Hospice for their care and support.
