Maresh, Dr. John Ross passed away quietly on May 17, 2024 at the age of 74. He was born to Dr. E.R. Maresh and Katherine Maresh (née Ziskovsky) on June 6, 1949, in Sioux Falls, S.D. His growing up years in SF were spent on every athletic field and every golf course. He was a natural athlete, and was excellent at any sport he picked up. Larger than life, both in size and personality, is a good description of how John lived his life. He adored his wife, Diane, when they met at Augustana University and married in 1973. They were married for 51 years. And he adored his beloved 4 children, Amanda Maresh Honey, married to Kevin Honey, children, Payton, Cambell, and Ty; Nikole Maresh Roth, married to Aaron Roth, children, Laiken, Noelle, Ashton, Ryder, and Vail; Leigh Maresh Roth, married to Carl Roth, children, Parker, Wesleigh, Rowan and Cullen; and John Ross Maresh II, married to Courtney Petersen Maresh, children, Charlotte (Charli), and John Ross III. John loved being on the sidelines coaching baseball, football, soccer and shouting encouragement at hockey games and gymnastics meets. John's greatest pastime was spending time on the lakes-Okoboji, IA and Lake Minnetonka, MN. He was very proficient at racing his C-scow and later his S2-79 sailboats, he was happiest on the water. He loved his community of Long Lake/Orono and was elected to serve on the Orono School board for 14 years, 6 of those years as the board chairman. John was also a member of the State Bank of Long Lake for many years, helping to grow his community. He volunteered for many community events and many church activities at Trinity Lutheran Church, the family's mainstay. John was a faithful man of God. John was especially devoted to his dental patients when he established his solo dental practice in Long Lake, MN after graduating from Loyola Dental School, Chicago in 1978, and completing a hospital residency program at St Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1979. His practice grew quickly where clients were treated with respect, care, and excellent dentistry. Sadly, his dental practice skills ended in early 2000 when he survived a stroke following knee replacement surgery, but he continued to be a tremendous example of grace and perseverance for the rest of his life while living with his new physical difficulties. He had an extraordinarily positive attitude which exuded in his constant smile. John was able to walk his daughters down the aisle at their weddings and dance the first dance, and was present when his 14 grandchildren were born. He enjoyed his time between Bonita Beach, FL and Wayzata, MN. "Life is good." He would say. He will be missed forever by many family members, relatives, patients, friends, and former employees. The world was a better more joyful place with him in it. John's wife, children and grandchildren will pay it forward for him. Until we meet again. Service of Celebration 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2060 County Road 6, Long Lake, MN 55356 with visitation one hour prior at church. Lunch to follow.
