Mechels, William August Age 85 of Blaine, returned to the arms of his family on May 20, 2024. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley Mae (Swanson). Survived by daughters, Marit Mechels (Jeff Vokracka), Juliana Hazelwood & Gail Bultman (Stacy); grandsons, Joe, Zach & Ben; great-grandson, Huxtyn; nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends. William was born on July 18, 1938, in rural Douglas County, MN and was raised in Garfield, MN as the only surviving child of Joseph and Bernadette Mechels. Bill was a loving and proud father, grandpa, and great grandfather who cherished time with his daughters, grandsons and great-grandson. Travel brought him great joy and he put on many miles in car rides with Shirley exploring and discovering new places. Bill loved his winter home in Apache Junction, AZ with a view of the Superstition Mountains. In the summer months, being "up North" in Alexandria and Nevis, with a view of the lake brought him peace and contentment. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at CHURCH OF ST. TIMOTHY (707 - 89th Ave. NE Blaine, MN) Monday June 3, 2024, at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Tuesday June 11th at 9 AM.
