Jann, Michael Lawrence passed away peacefully on Jan. 7, 2024 at age 84. He was born August 11, 1939 in Minneapolis, MN. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Andrea Jann; parents, Lawrence and Alva Jann. Survived by children, Scott (Katie) Jann, Elizabeth (Sean) O'Donnell, Mary (Patrick) Krekelberg and Katherine (Patrick) Mickle; brother, Thomas Jann; twelve grandchildren. Mike was a kind and humble man. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family. He was a devout Catholic and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Brighton for over 50 years. Mike attended DeLaSalle High School and received his bachelor degree in journalism from the University of Minnesota. He retired from the Star Tribune after working there for almost 50 years. Mike was a contributor to and a historian of the early Minneapolis music scene with bands such as The Trashmen and The Underbeats. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and endless supply of anecdotes and stories. Mike received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Minnesota Rock-Country Hall of Fame in 2007. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. Evening visitation Mon., Jan. 15, 5 - 7:30 PM with prayer service 7:30 - 8 PM at Washburn-McReavy New Brighton Chapel, 706 4th Ave. NW.
