Preceded in death by husband, Rex Kiser, parents, Elmer O. and Myrtle A. (Weatherwax) Grund, infant brother, Elmer A'Dare, and sister, Marlys Flach Walton. Survived by daughters Xan Laurence and Karen (Galen) Lorenz, and many relatives and friends. Miriam was born on October 24, 1928, in Holmes City, MN, and moved with her family to Minneapolis in 1942. She graduated from Central High School there in 1945 and took a nursing certificate from the University of Minnesota in 1948. She met her husband in Chicago while working in a rehabilitation facility for wounded World War II veterans where he was a patient. They settled in Edina in 1951, and Miriam lived there until 2012, when she moved to Parkshore Senior Community in St. Louis Park. In 2021 she moved to the memory care facility in Parkwood next door. Miriam was a faithful member of Normandale Lutheran Church since 1951, participating in women's circles and Bible study. She was a longtime member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, serving as adjutant, Junior and Senior Vice-Commander and Commander of Minneapolis Chapter #1, and in similar roles with the Minnesota State DAVA. She also volunteered for many years with the Veterans Affairs Volunteer Services (VAVS). The family would like to thank the staff and management of the Parkshore Senior Community, and especially the memory care facility, Reflections, at Parkwood, for their compassionate and loving treatment of Miriam during her residence there. So many wonderful people cared for her. Memorials may be directed to the Normandale Lutheran Church Foundation, 6100 Normandale Road, Edina, MN 55436, or to the Disabled American Veterans Foundation at admin@davmn.org. A memorial service will be held in the spring, with a private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, where her husband is buried. Washburn-McReavy.com Edina Chapel 952-920-3996
