York, Steven Owen July 19, 1948 July 2, 2023 Steve York always was smiling and met each day with cheerfulness and optimism. He embraced new adventures and savored participating in long-standing activities with friends. Steve was born in Waconia, Minnesota on July 19, 1948, to John (Jack) O. York and Carol York, nee Maiser. He graduated from Waconia High School where he played trombone in the high school band and was a member of the WHS football team. In 1966, Steve attended the University of Minnesota where he majored in economics and later attended law school. He played in the University Marching Band. While at the University of Minnesota, he met his life partner, Mary. They would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary in August. Steve worked for Aetna Insurance Company until he retired. Post-retirement, Steve worked at Wells Fargo Bank in Minneapolis until 2018. Steve loved biking and participated in the Klobuchar Bike Tour for decades. Steve was also a pilot and played on a three-man basketball team that went to national competitions. He loved maps, solving puzzles, tying knots expertly, and, in general, tinkering. Steve and Mary enjoyed attending concerts and theater, skiing, canoeing and spending time on their island house on Lake Namakin, Canada. They traveled extensively including trips to New Zealand, Australia, Bali, East Timor, and Europe. They loved watching old movies and making "Boppa Waffles" for their grandchildren. Just this year, they moved into Steve's childhood house on Lake Waconia, MN that they had totally renovated. Steve York perished along with his 16 year old granddaughter, Keira Duffy, in an automobile accident on July 2, 2023. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary; his son Jonathan, Madison WI; his daughter Katie York, St. Louis Park, MN; grandson Will Duffy; grandson Fidelis York; aunt Connie Ryan, St. Paul, MN; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Noelle Hanson, Highland Park, IL; close cousins John Seltz and Catherine Furry, St. Paul, MN; and many cousins and dear friends.
