Allen, Matthew Corwin Matt Allen died suddenly on February 3, 2023 in Minneapolis. You might have known Matt as a friendly neighbor walking his dogs in the woods by Cedar Lake, or by his smile and wave as he drove by in his '98 turquoise Jeep. Here are some things that you may not have known about Matt: He could throw a perfect spiral. He chose the Boundary Waters routes with the hardest portages. He kept an annual list of migrating warblers. He hosted a funk radio show while at Carleton College. He often heard song lyrics in everyday conversation. He kept a paper scorecard at Twins' games. When necessary, he could always consult his pocket Constitution. He had many silly nicknames for each of his pets. He volunteered for everything at Kenwood School and delighted in the successes of every kid there. He loved his children beyond measure. Matt's gift to his family, friends, and community was the thoughtfulness he put into every small, day to day interactions. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. William Corwin Allen. He is survived by his wife Sarah Vernon, their children Lucie and Wynne Vernon Allen, his mother Kathryn Engelhard Allen, and his siblings Benjamin Allen and Elizabeth Allen. Please join us in a celebration of Matt's life on Saturday, June 3 at Kenwood Rec Center (2101 W Franklin Ave Mpls) at 10:30 AM. Memorials to the Cedar Lake Park Association, National Audubon Society, or the Animal Legal Defense Fund.
