Baer, Betty P. (nee Persian) 08/13/1931 03/20/2023 Daughter of Ben and Dora Persian. 'Cute and happy, short and snappy.' The Wayzata class of 1950 hit the nail on the head. No other words could better describe Betty. She was full of hope and life. Attributes that helped her get through good and bad times. Betty and Bill married in 1954; most of their married life was spent on the farm in Hamel. As a city slicker, driving a tractor did not come naturally. It was a job she was "fired" from more than once. But she had her strengths; she could can, sew, knit, hang wallpaper like a pro and cook. She was a woman who could "bring home the bacon and fry it up in the pan". She worked for Northwestern Bell for 43 years and upon retirement began a catering career with Town and Country. Betty could make something out of nothing and it would be delicious. She was the proverbial hostess with the mostess. Once she got you good and full, and possibly a little drunk, she would drill down on your life. She had interrogation skills like an FBI special agent, nothing was too personal. She liked being in the know. She was fair, honest and loving. She had four children Paul, John, Fritz and Joan. Spouses came later, Laurel, Kathy and Bill, then grandchildren Liza, Suzie, Sara, Will, Henry, Walter and Maggie and a grandson-in-law Mike, lastly, a great-grandson, Georgie, who she might have loved a little more. Betty left us quietly on the first day of spring. It has left us feeling very empty. So, mom, please watch over us and guide us, especially when we try to make your potato salad or attempt to pay full price for anything. And yes, we'll keep an eye on the level of furnace fuel and try to keep Paul from bringing his chickens into the house. A special thank you to all the people who made it possible for Betty to stay at the farm, Marie, Anne Marie, Jenny and Holly. A Celebration of Life will be held later this summer. Details to follow.
