Peterson, Lucille Mae 95, passed away November 15. She was the beloved wife of the late Capt. Burleigh B. Peterson Jr. Lucille was born in Warwick, RI., the first of six children to Carlton and Mildred Bugbee. She graduated from Samuel Gorton High School 1945 and from the first collegiate nursing program at Rhode Island State College. With nursing degree in hand, she joined the US Navy Nursing Corps and served at the Naval Hospital in Oakland, CA. Among her patients were wounded Sailors and Marines from the Korean War. She married Naval officer Burleigh B. Peterson Jr. and after many moves during Burleigh's Naval career, settled in Hopkins, MN. They were longtime members of Hopkins United Methodist Church where her women's circle made quilts for the Ronald McDonald House. Lucille was an accomplished seamstress and a great cook. Her vegetable garden was well tended the tomatoes were amazing. In 2013 Lucille suffered a stroke and has since lived in Presbyterian Homes in Eden Prairie. Lucille was predeceased by husband Burleigh B. Peterson Jr.; siblings, Eunice V. Manchester, Millie E. Brown, Carlton N. Bugbee Jr. and Alden O. Bugbee. She is survived by daughters, Joanne (Joe) Kellogg and Judi Sanson; grandchildren, Tommy Sanson, Amanda (Ian) Dahlberg, Mel Sanson, Joseph Sanson, Sarah Kellogg and Ian Kellogg; great-grandsons, Aidan and Sebastian Sanson; sister, Rita (Bonnie) Bugbee; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Lucille also leaves behind many friends and caregivers who have brought joy and comfort to her life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to Presbyterian Homes Foundation, 2845 Hamline Ave N, Roseville, MN 55113 or your favorite charity. Memorial service December 10, 10:30 am, with reception following, at Flagstone (Presbyterian homes), 8350 Commonwealth Dr. Eden Prairie. May God be with you.
