Roegge, John Alex John Roegge died peacefully, with family at his side, on Feb 2, 2022 in Naples, FL. He is survived by his children Frederick, wife Julie; Mary Richardson, husband John; Sarah Gunhouse, husband Gerard. Grandsons Alex and Will Roegge, Will's wife Chandler. Siblings Charles, Beth Passi and Jim. John was preceded in death by his loving wife Marilyn, sister Jane Apman and longtime companion Barbara David. John was born in Nipawin, Saskatchewan, Canada to Rev. Alex & Elta Eilers Roegge on 11/21/31. As a "PK" (Preacher's Kid), John enjoyed all the pleasures and restrictions of the pastoral life. John spent most of his childhood years growing up in Minnesota, where his father presided over several Lutheran congregations. John took part in all the family endeavors, whether it was fur trapping, tending the garden, chopping wood or helping out in the church. At age 14 John went to St. Paul to attend high school at Concordia Academy, where he graduated in 1948. He attended Macalester College and then graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1953. It was at the U of M that he met his wife Marilyn Panning, whom he married in 1957. After college he was called into the US Army and was stationed at Camp Chaffee, AR. Following his military service in 1955, John began his professional career in marketing at General Mills. He later took a position at the Sperry Corporation where he was employed for over 25 years. John and Marilyn were active members of St. Peter's Lutheran church and school in Edina. John served as congregation president and taught Bible classes. He was also active in his children's high school, Minneapolis Lutheran, where he served on the board of directors. After Marilyn died, John moved from Edina to Naples, FL where he developed a large circle of friends. John enjoyed history and was a Civil War buff. He also loved spinach, Spam® and sports, particularly Major League Baseball. Celebration of John's life will be at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 5421 France Ave S, Edina, MN 55410 on Saturday, July 16 at 11am, with a reception to follow. Visitation with the family will be available starting at 10:30am. Memorials may be directed to St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
