Carroll, Michael Emmett age 89, of Columbia Heights. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years Karen, and loving sister Maryann. Survived by his children, Scott Carroll, Craig Carroll, Lisa (John) Mott, Thomas (Heather) Carroll; daughter-in-law Brenda; grandchildren Ben, Stefany, Jessica, Carly, Regina, Megan, Molly, Belle, Emma; great grandchildren Kenzie, Kira, Carter, Leon, Hugo, Oscar, Benjamin, Zephaniah; sisters Bethine and Dawn; and many loving nieces and nephews. Mike was born and raised in the Minneapolis area, and his aunt Elsa Esch (Hoffman) was a huge part of his life. He graduated from West High School and immediately enlisted in the Marine Corps and served his country for four years and fought in the Korean War. After returning to Minnesota after his service, he attended St. Thomas and soon after he met the love of his life and married Karen Shaughnessy, and they raised four children. He was always busy with multiple jobs along with his full time career as an appraiser for the City of Plymouth. He was an avid pheasant hunter. Mike loved gardening and enjoyed taking the family camping at Big Island Veterans Camp on Lake Minnetonka. He was a Vikings fan until the end. In 'retirement' he worked for Rolf Erickson doing more appraisal work. That part time retirement job only lasted 22 years. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and good friend to many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
