Rev. Roland Paul Whitcomb, Sr.

Whitcomb, Rev. Roland Paul, Sr. Age 91 of Fridley, died on Saturday, September 25, 2021. Preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Whitcomb, his parents, Paul and Alice Whitcomb. Survived by his children Roland Whitcomb Jr (Lisa), Richard Whitcomb (Karyn), and Renee Lucas; grandchildren, Joni Carlson, Charles Whitcomb, Jonathan Whitcomb (Vatina), Emily Whitcomb, Elsie Whitcomb, Eleanor Whitcomb, William Whitcomb, Elliot Whitcomb, Jack Lucas, Elaina Lucas, Rebecca Lucas, two great-grandsons Kevin and Cameron, sisters-in-law Patricia Magnuson and Elizabeth Magnuson. Rollie grew up in Gladstone, Oregon, where he gave his life to Jesus, served in his church, played baseball, graduated from Oregon City High School, and worked in his uncle's flower business. In 1952 he came to Minneapolis to attend Northwestern Bible School where he enjoyed singing in the college choir. He met Ruth and married her right after graduation. He took graduate classes at Bethel Seminary, The University of Minnesota, and the University of Oregon. An ordained minister, Pastor Whitcomb served in several churches as Youth Minister, Choir Director, Assistant Pastor, and Senior Pastor. He was the Senior Pastor at Morrison Baptist Church in North Minneapolis for 38 years. He never retired. He performed his grandson's wedding three weeks before his death and ministered in his church the Sunday before he died. The last time he checked into the hospital he was asked if he was employed. He said, "Yes, I'm a pastor". Pastor Whitcomb had a passion to lead people to Jesus Christ. He and Ruth loved the community and often took young people in to live in their home when they had nowhere else to go. A hard-working husband (married 64 years), father, and grandfather, Rollie diligently provided for and loved his family throughout his life. Services at Straitgate Church 638 E Franklin, Minneapolis.
