Shier, Kathryn E. 'Katie' age 43, of Inver Grove Heights; passed away peacefully on September 11, 2021, after courageously battling a 6-year illness. Survived by father Robert "Bob" Shier and mother Patrice "Patty" Shier (née Byer); foster sons, Anthony and Malik Brown; siblings Michael (Deanna), Amy, & Bryan Shier; special nieces & nephews Lauren, Abigail, Sarah, Gavin and Devon Shier; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends. Katie was passionate about children and Early Childhood Education. She was a strong advocate for the overall health and well being of children and the foster care system. Katie loved going to the family cabin in Grand Marais, vacationing with family and friends, her dog Sarge, and shopping. Katie graduated from Cretin-Derham Hall in 1996, and from the University of WI-Stout; she earned her master's degree from the U of MN. Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Tuesday, September 21 at GUARDIAN ANGELS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 8260 4th St N, Oakdale. Visitation 4-7 PM Monday at MUELLER-BIES FUNERAL HOME-ROSEVILLE, 2130 N Dale St at Co Rd B, and from 9:30 - 11 AM Tuesday at the church.
