Stein, David Charles 61, of Annandale, MN, died peacefully on Aug. 7, 2021, after a year-long battle with bile duct cancer. Preceded in death by father James S. Stein. Survived by mother Joyce A. Stein, brother Thomas J. Stein, sister Lisa S. Taylor (Clay), nephew and nieces Nicholas, Lauren and Kendall Taylor. After graduating from Carleton College in 1982, David held management positions with Wendy's, Domino's Pizza and Taco John's. In 1995, he opened a restaurant in SW Mpls., Michelangelo's MasterPizzas, and operated it for many years. Then, changing focus, David and his long-time friend and business partner Mike Happ together owned and operated Maple Lake Recovery Center, a chemical dependency treatment center for teens. In 2005, they added Prairie House Recovery Center in Monticello. Eventually, David earned a LADC (licensed alcohol and drug) certificate and became a substance abuse counselor.
