Boes, Cynthia Marie age 64, passed away on Sunday, August 8. Cynthia (Cindy to the world) was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Preceded in death by sister Karen Oman and brother Ronald Boes (died in infancy). Survived by parents, Vernon and Lois Boes; sister Sandra O'Brien (Kevin); nephews and nieces - godson Casey O'Brien (Tricia), Brady O'Brien (Jade), Shane O'Brien, Jennifer Oman (Nick Merchant and Hudson) and Lindsay Ring; also Jim and Mahideh Oman and Annie Isler. Also survived by constant friends Richard Stroncek, Mary Upson, other beloved godchildren including Hanna Hudrlik, Chloe Figueroa, and Troy Kokkinen along with many other close friends and our dear "Lunch Cousins." Cynthia was born in Estherville, Iowa and was the middle daughter of three girls. The family moved to the Twin Cities when she was a young teen. She attended St. Margaret's Academy and then Benilde-St. Margaret's for her senior year, where she won the contest to write the words to the new school song, still in use today. She then attended the College of St. Catherine and was very proud to be a "Katie" and met some of her lifelong friends there. She was a lover of travel and adventure, and after graduation was thrilled to work for Northwest Airlines and continued working there for almost 30 years. She retired early as a part of the Northwest/Delta merger and after discovery of advanced breast cancer. In her own quiet way, Cynthia was very strong in spirit and in her convictions. She was passionate and active in her causes of gun violence prevention, animal protection, children in poverty and politics. But she was even more fiercely supportive and protective of her family. She was the fun aunt, always attending the concerts, plays, and sporting events; helping with the birthday parties, and the world's best baby sitter. She was an accomplished pianist, enjoyed singing and dancing, had a wonderful sense of humor, traveled as much as she was able, and had many adventures and misadventures in her life. She also was the proud owner of her pet cat Rosealie. Her greatest achievement was her kindness to others. She's an inspiration to us all in how she handled the adversity and challenges in her life with cheerfulness, patience and courage. She will be dearly missed. We are indebted to the many nurses and doctors and staff who became fond of Cindy over the years and were so kind to her, including Dr. Katherine Chang, Dr. Christopher Vye and the Paracentesis staff at Fairview Southdale Hospital. Especially appreciate the honesty and care in her final decision-making days at Fairview Southdale Hospital and to the care of the hovering nurse angels at NC Little Hospice. Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, August 16 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am at St. Gabriel the Archangel-St. Joseph Campus, 1310 Mainstreet, Hopkins, MN 55343. In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a donation on behalf of Cynthia, please donate to any charity supporting animal welfare or children in poverty.
