Smiler-Steinberg, Gail 78, passed away in Jacksonville, Fl. September 25. Born and raised in Minneapolis, she was a graduate of the University of Minnesota, majoring in psychology, after which she joined VISTA, the American Peace Corp, working with disadvantaged youth in Chicago and New York City. There she met and married Roy M. Steinberg, a Manhattan artist. At that time she became personnel director for Madison Square Garden. Eventually they moved to Monroe Township, New Jersey, where they resided the last thirteen years. Gail loved art and blossomed into a talented painter and sculptor, selling her work in numerous venues. Her last one-woman show took place in a local gallery in 2019. Preceded in death by her parents Minnie and Paul Smiler of Minneapolis and her husband, Gail is survived by loving sisters Nancy Levinson, Los Angeles, and Maurine Meleck, Ponte Vedra, FL, dear cousin, Jane Karayusuf of Minneapolis, a niece Natalie Polizzi, two nephews, and two grand nephews. Gail will be laid to rest next to her husband during a small memorial service at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge, New Jersey. Our beautiful and cherished Gail will be deeply missed.
