Heine, John of Duluth, MN died peacefully at home on August 17, 2020. Preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Mike Heine. He is survived by his brother Jim Heine (Mary Ann) and Caroline (niece) Heine. John was born on Oct. 5, 1961 in Minneapolis, MN. After graduating from University of St. Thomas in St. Paul MN, John moved to Duluth and pursued graduate studies in the Geology Department at the University of Minnesota Duluth. During his 30+ year career with Minerals & Metallurgy Strategic Research Initiative, he worked on a wide variety of field and laboratory-based geological studies to better understand the mineral characteristics and mineral potential of the state. He retired from the NRRI after an accomplished career earlier this year. John loved field work, and he never stopped learning and teaching. He had a big heart, adored his niece Caroline, and treasured his pets Phoenix and Squeaky. He had a great sense of humor and was always willing to give a helping hand particularly with computer related issues. Celebration of his life will occur at a later date.
