Gage, Mary (TeBrake) aged 81, of North Oaks, passed away at home on November 1, 2019 after a long illness. Mary was born August 13, 1938 in Brooten Minnesota to Helen and William TeBrake. While in college, she met and married her husband James Gage, with whom she celebrated their 60th anniversary months before her death. Mary was the first in her family to attend college and helped inspire her three younger siblings to do the same. After graduating from Calvin College, Mary taught middle school English. Although she left teaching to raise a family, she continued to highly value education, serving on her local board of education while the family was living in Wethersfield, Connecticut, mentoring women living in family shelters, and promoting reading throughout her life. She also devoted countless hours to supporting her church community, hosting events, and traveling or simply welcoming friends and colleagues of her husband to their own home and table in furtherance of his mission to improve care for children with cerebral palsy. She was a gifted listener and friend, an adventurous cook, and an expert hostess. She is survived by her husband; children James (Gwen) Gage, Renae (Kathy) Gage, and Jenny Gage (Andrew Yamato); 5 grandchildren Meredith (Tim Murphy), Anna, Katie, Christian, and Vivi, and great-grandchild Desmond. She is also survived by brothers John (Edith), Bill, Paul (Ruth), and Wayne (Nelva); sister-in-law Kathryn (Gage) Chase; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 16 at 10:30 AM at Faith Christian Reformed Church in New Brighton. Donations in her memory may be made to Gillette Children's Hospital.
