Thompson, Robert Leon the son of Mildred Lorraine Simmons and Thornell Thompson, was born January 7, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan. He attended Inkster High School and later earned his diploma certificate. Robert married Shirley Ann Shaw in 1968 and they share two sons. Robert followed his sister Sharon to Minneapolis in 1974 where he attended Cosmology School and became a licensed beautician. In his life Robert was a school counselor, beautician, barber and the renowned University of Minnesota bus driver known as the Jazzman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking, gardening and music of all kinds but his favorite genre was jazz. He survived by his four children Eileen (Lisa) Williams of Atlanta, GA, Derrick Thompson of Washington DC, Leon and Andre Thompson of Saint Paul, his brother, Michael Vincent Dunn of Duluth, MN, his sister(s) Sharon Jean Sullivan of Edina, MN, Ingrid Joyce Brown of Nashville, TN, Rhonda June Hudson of Phoenix, AZ, Lori Renee, Daria Louise and Sonja Ileen Dunn of Inkster, MI and his aunt Ernestine Kennedy Gray (Moonie) of Detroit, MI and grandchildren Ciara Williams, Raven, Koleby, Amari and Zhane Thompson, and a great grandson, Kayden along with a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and family and friends. His parents, Mildred and Thornell, his grandsons Shomari and Khree Thompson and three siblings, Jesse Leonard Dunn and Janice Denise Murphy and Derrick Linn Dunn, preceded him in death. Following the Memorial Services at Estes Funeral Home, 2210 Plymouth Av N, Minneapolis, MN Saturday, August 24, 2019 from 3-4:30PM family and friends are invited to join us at Seven Club in Downtown Minneapolis from 5-8PM for jazz music, food and beverages celebrating the life of Robert Leon Thompson in the style and fashion he lived.
