Croud, Maggie Doris Beloved daughter of Lillian Eustis and Joseph Croud, sister to Sarah Croud and aunt to Noelani Croud, passed away at her family home in Frontenac, Minnesota on July 14, 2019 after a long illness. She was 37. Maggie was compassionate, funny, loving and wise. She was devoted to her family, loved to travel and was a fiercely independent spirit. In high school, she was all-Goth when none of her friends were. She brewed her own beer, foraged for mushrooms, and went snorkeling in the Pacific a few months before her death. She was never a victim. In her struggle with cancer she never succumbed to self-pity. She had a lifelong love of nature, wildlife and all animals. She trained as a veterinary technician and worked at the International Wolf Center in Ely, Minnesota, the University of Minnesota Minneapolis Campus and the River Buff Humane Society in Red Wing. At the time of her death, she was studying biochemistry at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Maggie was an enrolled member of the Ojibwe Nation, Pillager Band, White Earth Reservation. Her Ojibwe name, Ishkwegaabawikwe, means "Woman Who Stands Last." She is survived by her mother, Lillian Eustis; sister Sarah Croud, half-sister Josette Croud and half- brother Solomon Croud; step-mother Jeanne Croud; grandmother Nancy Eustis; niece Noelani Croud and nephew Kona Croud ; aunts and uncles Linda and Drew Frankel, Belinda Frankel and Karl Begley, Maja Anderson and Jon Frankel, John Newman, Sarah Croud, Laurie and Oskar Eustis and Soren Eustis; cousins Elizabeth, Catherine, Braun, Chance, Zofia, Jesse and Andrew Frankel, Alex and Ben Begley, Kyle Brown and Isla Eustis, in addition to a community of loving friends. Memorial service will be held at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, 602 Plum Street in Red Wing, at 1 pm on Sunday, August 11, 2019, with reception to follow. Burial will be at the Christ Episcopal Church Cemetery in Old Frontenac. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to River Bluff Humane Society in Maggie's honor.
