Mielke, Barbara Age 84, long- time resident of Brooklyn Center, passed away peacefully with family by her side on December 7, 2018. Barbara was born in Kirkburton, Yorkshire, England. In 1959, she came to America to work as a nanny in Wayzata, MN for a 14-month contract, but she stayed in Minnesota when she met and married Robert Mielke at the Medina Ballroom. They lived in Minneapolis a few years, then moved to Brooklyn Center to raise their children. She worked as a hairdresser, loved gardening, travelling the U.S. and U.K., and doted on her grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Robert Mielke. Survived by son, Doug (Jan) Mielke, and daughter, Sandra Mielke; grandchildren, Ryan, Emily, Alyssa, and Zoe; sisters, Delia (Robert) Battye of Yorkshire, England and Ann (Les) Hough of Durham, England; sisters-in-law, Grace Pupeza, Betty Sogge, and Clem Mielke; and many nieces and nephews, and friends in the U.S. and U.K. Memorial service on Saturday, June 29 at 11 AM, at the Lyndale Park Peace Garden near Lake Harriet, 4124 Roseway Rd, Minneapolis. Reception follows (until 2:30 PM) at the Theodore Wirth Pavilion, 3275 Glenwood Ave. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Friday 28, at 1:50 PM, Assembly Area 1.
