Hoye, Christopher George Christopher George Hoye, 64, passed away peacefully on 3/26/19. Born 6/12/1954, Chris attended Burroughs Elementary School, Ramsey Junior High, and Vocational High School. He was proud to be a US Navy veteran, having served on the aircraft carrier USS America in the Persian Gulf, and on a ground base in Rota, Spain. He was a mechanic, working with Navy A3 Sky Warriors. These were the largest aircraft that the Navy operated on an aircraft carrier. Chris was in the service from April 2, 1979- September 2, 1982. After this, Chris worked as a tree-trimmer for the Minneapolis Park Board for many years. He especially loved Arbor Day, when he got to spend the day planting trees with elementary school children. Chris was a big fan of Sherlock Holmes, Nero Wolfe, Perry Mason, big-band music, Bonnie Raitt, and any and all dogs and cats. Family and friends remember Chris for his gentle, soulful nature and his unique sense of humor. He was a deep and thoughtful conversationalist and loved to share a good joke. He was an artist and sculptor, expert pumpkin-carver, and enjoyed woodworking, jewelry-making, archery, fishing, skiing, and crossword-puzzles. Chris is welcomed by his parents, Al and Psyche Hoye. He is survived by his longtime love, Rita Evans; his siblings, Heidi (Russ) Maxson, Betsy (Dan) Weber, Shelley (Jim) Mitchell, Nick (Pam) Hoye, Geoff Hoye, Katherine (Joe) Nirmaier, Jason (Janet) Hoye; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, Lola. Graveside service will be held Saturday, May 18 at 11 am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, 13203 Judicial Road, Burnsville. Reception to follow at 1 pm at the Edina Senior Center, 5280 Grandview Square, Edina, MN. Please bring memories of Chris to share. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter.
