Bessie grew up in Duluth, the youngest of nine children. She moved to Minneapolis after high school with her best friend, Naomi Shiff. She worked as a bookkeeper and met Leo at a wedding. They married in her brother Sammy's living room in 1950. Together they were active in hiking, fishing, skating and tandem-biking. Famous for her matzoh ball soup, knishes and Mandelbrot, she knew how to make a house a home. We'll miss her sassy sense of humor.
