Karraker (Wilkes), Mary Margaret "Meg" Meg Wilkes Karraker of Minneapolis passed away peacefully on November 26, 2018 at the age of 65. She is preceded in death by father Herbert W. Wilkes, Jr. Survived by loving husband Mark, daughters Amelia (Samuel) and Miriam, mother Mary Gold Wilkes, and sister Jean (Coolie) Rice. Meg was Professor Emerita of Sociology at the University of St. Thomas. She loved teachingone of her greatest joys was visits from former students. She studied religious and civil networks among Catholic sisters serving migrants in the upper Midwest and Italy, as well as how family businesses contribute to the common good in their communities. She said "besides cooking, gardening, and enjoying music and theatre in the Twin Cities, I would rather be no other place than on a terrazzo in Assisi, sipping a glass of wine while meditating on the Umbrian plain." Special thanks to the compassionate care teams at Fairview Southdale Hospital, the Mayo Clinic, and Aurora on France. Memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society and Save the Children. Visitation Friday, November 30 at 10 AM followed by service at 11 AM both at Nokomis Heights Lutheran Church, 5300 10th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN, 55417.
