Horstman, Lawrence G. "Larry" age 67, of Faribault passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving children. Visitation is planned for Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 2:00 5:00 PM at Boldt Funeral Home, Faribault. Memorial services will be held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Faribault on Monday, March 12, 2018 at 11:00 AM with the Reverend Jeffery Sandgren officiating. Following the service there will be a time of fellowship and lunch at the church, where Larry and Carol have been members since 1979. Larry was born in 1950 to Glenn and Mavis in Braham, MN. Larry graduated from Minnehaha Academy and was an active youth member at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, where he met the love of his life, Carol in 1966. Larry and Carol were married at St. Paul's in 1971. In 1976, they welcomed daughter Amy, shortly thereafter Larry's career with the Minneapolis Star Tribune took the three of them to Windom, MN. In 1978, the family became four with the birth of Jeff. In 1979 they moved to Faribault and in 1989 the family applique was complete with the birth of Jason. With a work ethic comparable to none and never one to turn down a challenge, in 1996, after 20 years with the Star Tribune, with his family as his number one priority, Larry retired from the newspaper business to begin a new journey. Larry's ease for leadership, enthusiasm and passion for people led him to Shattuck St. Mary's, where he helped to guide and build a world renowned hockey program. Larry retired from Shattuck St. Mary's in 2016 after 20 years of dedication as a hockey coach and hockey operations coordinator. Although never a hockey player himself, success came easy at Shattuck St. Mary's. Larry's kind, caring and compassionate love for people, enthusiasm for life, love for family and ease for leadership made Larry Horstman and Shattuck St. Mary's hockey a successful and fulfilling partnership. Larry truly lived his passion, which oddly enough is people, not hockey, and he touched countless lives along the way. Although his time here on earth was short, he has said countless times over the past few months he has no regrets. He lived a full life. What a blessing. What a life. What a legacy. Larry is survived by his mother, Mavis Horstman; sister, Diane Graham; daughter, Amy (Tim) Cox; sons, Jeff (Jana) and Jason (Madison); grandchildren, Keegan & Kyle Cox, Sam, Ellie & Ari Horstman, Harper Horstman; father-in-law, Lowell Swenson; sisters-in-law, Barb (Bruce), Linda (Mike), Joy (Tony); many cousins, nieces and nephews across the country; countless friends from near and far and the forever dear to our hearts Shattuck St. Mary's community. Larry was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Carol Horstman; father, Glenn Horstman; sister, Susan Horstman and mother-in-law, Marion Swenson. boldtfuneralhome.com 507-334-4481
