Thompson, Claudette L. (Gant) Surrounded by her loving husband, children, and grandson, Claudette L.Thompson, age 64, went home to be with the Lord at 8:18pm on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. She leaves behind a legacy of love and service to her family and her communities of Crystal, Minnesota and the greater northwest suburbs of Minneapolis/Saint Paul. In the days preceding her transition, she was visited by countless family members, godchildren, and friends from her church, her neighborhood, and the places she worked over the course of her career. Born to Thomas and Geneva (Blackshear) Gant in Camden, New Jersey, Claudette married Leroy Curtis Thompson in August of 1976, and moved to Minnesota in November of that year. Curt and Claudette celebrated 40 years of marriage last year. The couple has resided in Crystal for the past 30 years, after living in Minneapolis and Brooklyn Park. Claudette studied at Our Lady of Lourdes School of Nursing in Minneapolis, as well as at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. She completed a degree in Applied Design and Graphics at the U of M while expecting the third of their four daughters. Claudette's involvement with the community included working at the YWCA, North High School in Minneapolis, and Robbinsdale-Cooper High School. She went into full-time ministry, teaching parenting skills to women in the Shakopee Women's Correctional Facility and the Hennepin County Jail; her husband was involved with ministry to men in prison at the Lino Lakes Correctional Facility. In recent years she cared for infants at Brookdale Christian Center Day Care. Curt joined her on staff when a teacher for the toddlers was needed, and the children and families there were blessed to see, firsthand, the happy affection between the two of them. Claudette is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Y. and Geneva (Blackshear) Gant. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Curt; daughters Leah Thompson, Janelle (Keith) Clepper, Theresa (Noel) Nix, and Andra Thompson; grandsons Micah and Samuel (and another little one on the way); The celebration of life service for Claudette L.
