Carter, Iris Imogene died January 6, 2018. She was under the compassionate care of the staff at Arbors at Ridges Assisted Living in Burnsville, Minnesota. Imogene was born April 15, 1921 in San Jose, Costa Rica. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ruth Smith, brother Lynn Smith, husband Jack Carter, and daughter Nancy and son-in-law Eric Svendsen. She is survived by sons Steve (Jill), Jeff (Carol), Joel, and Brian (Kris), six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Imogene grew up the daughter of missionaries in Latin America, and graduated from high school in York, Nebraska. She attended the University of Nebraska where she met and married her husband, Jack Carter. Imogene later graduated from North Dakota State University, and was a lifelong fan of Bison athletics. She taught languages at Supervised Study in Fargo and was for many years the organist at Faith United Methodist Church in Fargo. A memorial service is planned for this summer.
