Wojtowicz, Eugene H. (1926-2018) "Gene" Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018 at the age of 91 years in St. Louis, MO. Mr. Wojtowicz was born in Minneapolis, MN on June 9, 1926. After graduating high school he enlisted in the Army. During his wartime experiences, he fought in numerous European theaters, including the Battle of the Bulge. Along the way, he received many battlefield commendations, including the Silver Star and a Bronze Star with a Single Oak Cluster. After the war, he returned to Minneapolis and graduated from St. Thomas University. He became a psychologist and rose to become Assistant Director at the internationally known Hazelden drug rehab center in Minnesota. In 1971 he was approached by the owner of Edgewood Hospital in St. Louis about coming there and creating a cutting edge hospital for the treatment of drug addiction. He did so by creating The Edgewood Program which treated patients in a unique way including family members in the patient's recovery. In the 80's Edgewood Hospital was merged into St. John's Mercy under the name The Edgewood Program on their campus. Mr. Wojtowicz continued to serve as Executive Director of that facility for several years. Thereafter, he taught at Webster University, Kenrick Seminary and other seminaries throughout the country and returned to private practice in the St. Louis area. Over his career, he has changed the lives of thousands of St. Louis families. Mass of Christian Burial at THE CHURCH OF THE HOLY CROSS, 1621 University Ave. NE Friday at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery.
