Minneapolis man arrested in shooting that killed Shakopee teen, injured 2

A suspect was arrested Friday afternoon in connection with a shooting that left one man dead and two others wounded Thursday night in Shakopee, police said.

The 27-year-old Minneapolis man was arrested by Shakopee investigators with the help of Minneapolis officers, according to police. Two other suspects remain at large as investigators follow up on leads.

According to police, three people came to an apartment in the 600 block of Gorman Street and opened fire on several people inside about 10:45 p.m. Thursday, killing a 19-year-old man and wounding his brother and a cousin.

Police said in a statement that there was "no general threat to the public" while the assailants were at large.

"This was not a random act of violence," said Police Chief Jeffrey Tate. "It's important to get that out there. We want to make sure the public knows that." He added that authorities do not believing the violence is gang-related.

Police said they were called to the Hunters Ridge apartments about a man having been shot. The apartment complex, with more than 300 units, is across the street from police headquarters.

Dead at the scene and less than 90 minutes shy of his 20th birthday was Shakopee High School student Marcos A. Pantaleon, police said.

The cousin, whose identity was being withheld, was shot in the leg, police said. His condition has not been disclosed.

According to Tate:

The three assailants knocked on the door of the apartment, where six people were inside: a mother, a father, a teenage girl and the three who would end up being shot.

The door was answered, the three entered, an altercation ensued and three shots from a handgun were fired.

The chief said the assailants and the victims were familiar with each other on "some level. … There was enough familiarity there for us to know that it wasn't a random act."

Police have been called to the apartment before, but for "nothing like violent assaults or anything of that nature," Tate said.
