The Minneapolis Police Department Mounted Unit held a ceremony to honor two of its horses Thursday afternoon, November 21, 2019 at the Zuhrah Shrine Horseman Ranch in Maple Plain. A mare, Sedona, is retiring due to health problems after serving 5 years. Sedona was one of the most gentle horses and a favorite on the unit. There was also an End of Watch/Memorial Service for Police Horse Diego, who served on the MPD for 10 years. On August 26th, after completing a bar closing shift, Diego was found in the pasture with a badly broken leg, perhaps after having been kicked by another horse.
