Wild rice protest defused Thursday, may be revived Friday

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources defused a confrontation with Chippewa band members Thursday by issuing an unrequested one-day, special permit to harvest wild rice. But band members said the temporary move won't settle the treaty rights issue.
