Letter of the Day (Feb. 5): Ice dangers

If a sign won't stop drivers on thin ice, maybe this will.

The day after two people died when the car they were driving broke through the ice in a channel between Wayzata Bay of Lake Minnetonka and Gray's Bay, a snomobiler plunged into the channel between Black Lake and Spring Park Bay of Lake Minnetonka. Two more people died over the weekend after their vehicle went through the ice in a channel on Lake Minnetonka. An infant died a few weeks ago in a vehicle that went through the ice. Officials' warnings do not seem to be preventing more ice accidents.

One thought is to post a snow fence on each side of a channel before the bridge in addition to warning signs. This way, a vehicle would have to be driven through a fence to reach the channel. Maybe this will stop people from driving in the channels and save lives. It's worth a try.
