River flooding will continue to be a major concern in the Northeast into theweekend. Water levels are already high, and more heavy rain and runoff assurethat rivers will rise even more. Some of the larger rivers of the Northeast maynot crest until Sunday.Shown is how much more rain will fall Thursday night and Friday. The map doesnot show what has already fallen, nor does it show the big contribution torunoff that snowmelt is making.

Note, the words 'liquid precipitation' are used because up north in Quebec it'ssnowing. As you probably know, one inch of water is not equivalent to one inchof snow. The average ratio is 10 to 1. That is if you melt down 10 inches ofsnow, you'd get about an inch of water out of it. Of course, this ratio isheavily dependent on the air temperature. The colder it is, the more snow therewould be from the same amount of water.
