A 51-year-old Minneapolis man will spend the rest of his life in prison after a Hennepin County jury found him guilty on Thursday of murdering his wife and her 15-year-old daughter.

Gonzalo Galvan shot and killed 48-year-old Eugenia Tallman and Victoria Alvarez last September after his wife threatened to leave and take their children from their south Minneapolis home.

The couple's 7-year-old son was not harmed but witnessed the shooting.

Galvan called 911 after the shooting and later admitted that he had killed his wife and thrown the murder weapon in the garbage.

The jury deliberated for a couple hours before reaching the verdict on two first-degree premeditated murder charges, which carry an automatic life sentence.

Galvan had been charged with domestic assault at least three times in the past, but in each case the charges were dismissed, according to Hennepin County court records.
