Few things are more spectacular than a Minnesota sunset. (Well, maybe a Minnesota sunrise.) Add in one of our 10,000 lakes and you now have the not-so-secret recipe for a picture-perfect postcard that could beckon even the most skeptical of travelers. But as the sun sets on another season — fall begins on Thursday — we asked readers to send us their best shots so we could bask in summer's glow for just a few more days. Now let's turn our attention — and cameras — to fall. We're accepting submissions for Autumn, up close: We want a close-up view of fall colors. Think more artistic, less landscape. Deadline: Oct. 10. Send high-res photos to infocus@startribune.com. Please include your name and hometown.
Photographer: Jane Pederson, Duluth. Location: On the shore of Lake Superior at Glensheen Mansion in Duluth. “It’s the only legal place in Minnesota where you can have a bonfire on the shore of Lake Superior.” (The Minnesota Star Tribune)
Photographer: Sharon Martin Kotula, Maple Grove. Location: Last summer over Lake Albert in northwestern Minnesota near the family farm. “The evening sky was truly stunning and mezmerizing, changing constantly.” (The Minnesota Star Tribune)
Photographer: RJ Smiley, Edina. Location: Sunrise from the deck of Smiley’s lake home south of Garrison, Minn. “The minutes before and after were equally as stunning. The picture tells its own story — the sun trying to rise and brighten the day is in a battle with dark storm clouds.” (The Minnesota Star Tribune)
