"The race has never been canceled in 35 years. It was shortened one time when there was a windchill of 72 below. The air temperature was 33 below in 1983, but there must not have been much windchill that year, because they didn't cancel it. It's been as warm as 32 degrees above zero. We wouldn't want it to be that warm every year, but it's more fun for people when it is warm. Warmer, I should say. People from Florida wouldn't think it's balmy to run a race when it's 25 degrees. Locals think, 'Hey, this is a snap.' "
