Lindsay Ogrin, a seventh-grader from Plymouth, shot her first deer near Brainerd this year while sharing a stand with her grandfather. At 8:30 a.m., out walks an 8-point buck, broadside at 100 yards. Lindsay reared the gun but didn’t have it to her shoulder. Her grandfather corrected her, then noticed she was aiming high. He adjusted the rifle with his left hand so she could pick up the deer in the scope. She squeezed the trigger and, bam, the deer dropped in its tracks.
